Throughout the COVID pandemic, Becky Gee (National Account Manager) and Ultimate Healthcare have worked closely with the Bedfordshire & Luton Community Equipment Service to continue to provide the best possible level of service during these unprecedented times.

Our training, which is normally facilitated by Becky and our local TVN at the Depot, has quickly moved to virtual training on MS Teams. Becky and the TVN have tried to replicate their hands on session as closely as possible onto a virtual platform, encouraging as much interaction with Clinicians as possible. The feedback has been very positive and further sessions are planned to ensure Clinicians are as up to date as possible.

Due to the changes with the Discharge to Assess pathway, Becky has also worked with the Service to facilitate some training with Hospital based OT Teams, who are undertaking additional responsibilities to facilitate timely discharges. The sessions were rapidly pulled together and appear to have been very successful.

Although there have been some equipment challenges, as there have been nationally, Becky and UHC have tried to support the Service by suggesting possible alternative solutions. Becky has also spoken directly to some of our Service Users and their carers to provide advice or reassure them regarding their equipment concerns. They have all appreciated the personal touch.

I would like to thank you on behalf of Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and my Service, for the recent on line update training you provided for our clinical staff and also the support you have given since we introduced the Tamora111 Advance mattress last year.

Initially you provided face to face training all over the county for our community teams with many of the acute staff attending the sessions as well. A year on and we recognised a need to provide additional training as an update for those staff, who although now familiar with the mattress, needed to increase their confidence in utilising the settings on the pump for their client’s benefit. New staff who had joined the Trust since the initial training also found this to be beneficial. The sessions were very well attended and everyone unanimously said how good it was and that they went away with the assurance that they could use the mattress to its best advantage. We can also now be reassured that all authorised prescribers will be able to problem solve and eliminate any issues that arise in the future.

We are looking forward to using Ultimate’s online training facility and will roll this out to all the appropriate services when it is up and running.

Thank you and Ultimate for your prompt replies when contacted and readiness to assist. It’s been a challenging year!

On behalf of Berkshire I would like to thank both yourself and Ultimate Healthcare for your continued support throughout the pandemic and your quick response to the training need we required.

The Tamora III Advance mattress was introduced into Berkshire at the start of the pandemic and straight away we identified that a process was required so that:

a) Prescribers could not order the mattress until they were trained on the functionality of the mattress and pump.
b) Until the training was undertaken prescribers would not be able to order the mattress and monitoring systems were put in place as part of the process.
c) Virtual on-line training was agreed and dates sent out to prescribers.
d) Quick reference guide was developed Bespoke to Berkshire.

Pulling all of the above together was a team effort and the outcome has resulted in nearly 400 prescribers trained and the risk of unsafe practice has been reduced through the authorisation process ensuring only trained prescribers can order.

What a team effort thank you.
